Hi, I'm Emily Freer, an aspiring Future Teacher and this portfolio is to show my experiences and beliefs!

My Philosophy

It has always been my dream to be a teacher and make an impact on all of my students' lives. I am currently studying and working towards becoming a High School English Teacher. I also have a minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality studies, because it is my goal to make my classroom as welcoming as possible to share experiences, discuss current events/issues, and allow students to be fully themselves. I really want my future classroom to be discussion based because I believe in utilizing the power of student suggestion and student voice. Along with inclusivity, I also want to welcome all diverse students to share their culture, traditions, and style with the world surrounding them, especially the classroom! My future classroom will feature diverse media catered to all students and constant support offered every day to create a supportive, nurturing environment.

My Experience

So far I have had mulitple opportunities to be in a classroom that includes observing, student teaching, and even teaching itself. I have observed and assisted multiple Middle and High Schools in the Berks County school district in order to help those students succeed and also build my own knowledge of student-based learning strategies. I have also student-taught at Fleetwood High School for the second semester of 2023 which has given me all of the tools to run an effective classroom. Along with student teaching and observing, I have been able to teach in multiple ABA classroom settings that work with children ages three to seven to assist them in their daily routines and build social skills. Along with teaching in general, I have been and will continue to coach volleyball for high school-age female athletes to further their athletic career.
